Integration into the MAHLE Group
The MAHLE Group is the globally leading manufacturer of components and systems for the combustion engine and engine peripherals - from piston systems, cylinder components, and valve train systems through air management systems to liquid management systems. In addition to the automotive industry, MAHLE also supplies the small and large engine segments as well as the market for industrial filtration.


Industrial Filtration
Industrial filters have been developed and manufactured since 1962 in our plant in Öhringen. All research and development, design, production, and worldwide sales of the Industrial Filtration are concentrated here, with the fluid engineering, air filtration, and process technology segments.

Milestones

1929

Series production of air, oil, and fuel filter begins

1961

Purolator Products Inc. establishes the German company Purolator Filter GmbH in Stuttgart

1962

Production at the Öhringen plant commences

1968

Extension of the production hall in Öhringen

1972

MAHLE GmbH acquires a holding in Knecht Filterwerke GmbH

1974

Purolator Filter merges into MAHLE GmbH

1977

MAHLE GmbH holds the majority share in Knecht Filterwerke GmbH: The Öhringen plant operates under the name of Knecht

1979

Further extension of the plant Öhringen: The number of employees exceeds 600 for the first time

1990

Names of Purolator products changed to MAHLE filter or rather MAHLE industrial filter

1993

MAHLE GmbH acquires remaining shares in Knecht Filterwerke GmbH

1997

All locations of Knecht Filterwerke GmbH certified in accordance with to DIN EN ISO 9001

1999

Knecht, as a business unit of MAHLE, changes its name to MAHLE Filtersysteme GmbH

2001

Acquisition of the Tennex Group, Japan, now MAHLE Tennex Corp., with approx. 50 employees, extends the Industrial Filtration product range to include toner filters and micro-filters

2006

Acquisition of NFV GmbH and AKO Filter GmbH, which change their names to MAHLE NFV GmbH and MAHLE AKO GmbH

2007

New Joint Venture in Mogi Guacu, Brasil: MAHLE Filtroil

2008

New Joint Venture in Shanghai, China: MAHLE Industrial Filter Systems

2008

Acquisition of the Amafiltergroup, The Netherlands
